WHITEFISH LAKE FIRST NATION EVACUATION UPDATE:
THERE APPROXIMATELY ONLY 700 MEMBERS REGISTERED PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU REGISTER IF YOU RESIDE IN EITHER WHITEFISH RIVER OR ATIKAMEG. YOU CAN REGISTER ONLINE @ http://emergencyregistration.alberta.ca OR YOU CAN REGISTER IN PERSON AT THE SLAVE LAKE INN.
THE PRESENT FIRE DAMAGE HAS LOWERED BUT THE EVACUATION ORDER IS STILL IN PLACE FOR BOTH COMMUNITIES DUE TO THE POWER OUTAGE. ATCO IS DILIGENTLY WORKING ON THIS BUT THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO INFRASTRUCTURE AND REPAIRS WILL TAKE 3 – 4 DAYS TO COMPLETE. PLEASE REMAIN EVACUATED AND DO NOT RETURN TO THE COMMUNITY.
THE MAIN RECEPTION FOR FOOD VOUCHERS, FINANCIAL SUPPORT, REGISTRATION AND THERE ARE ALSO SOME BABY SUPPLIES AND BASIC TOILETRIES. THE RECPTION CENTER IS OPEN FROM 10:00 AM TO 7:00 PM DAILY.
STARTING WEDNESDAY MAY 10TH, THE SUPPORT FOR ACCOMODATIONS WILL ALSO BE MOVED FROM THE TOWN OFFICE TO THE SLAVE LAKE INN.
ANYONE THAT HAS A NEW ROOM ASSIGNED WILL HAVE UNTIL 4:00 PM DAILY TO CHECK IN AFTER WHICH THE ROOM WILL BE ALLOTTED TO ANOTHER FAMILY. FOR THE SAFETY OF GUESTS AND HOTEL STAFF AND TO KEEP PEACE THERE WILL BE NO ALCOHOL OR DRUG USE ALLOWED. THE HOTEL AND THE NATION HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMOVE EVACUEES THAT DO NOT WISH TO FOLLOW THIS RULE. IF YOU HAVE BEEN MOVED TO THE CURLING RINK THE DOORS WILL NOW BE CLOSED AT 9:00 PM NIGHTLY FOR ANYONE THAT NEEDS TO STAY THERE AND THERE IS A ZERO TOLERANCE RULE IN PLACE FOR ALCOHOL AND DRUGS AND ANYONE THAT SHOWS UP INTOXICATED WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER. ANY DAMAGES TO HOTEL ROOMS WILL BE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE REGISTERED EVACUEE FOR THAT ROOM. QUIET TIME REMAINS 11:00 PM AND ALL CHILDREN UNDER 12 YEARS OF AGE ARE TO BE UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION AT ALL TIMES.
ALL THE STAFF FROM THE TOWN OF SLAVE LAKE, WHITEFISH LAKE FIRST NATION, KEE TAS KEE NOW TRIBAL COUNCIL AND OTHERS ARE WORKING VERY HARD TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE EVACUEES ARE DOING & GETTING ALL THE SUPPORT THEY CAN AT THIS VERY DIFFICULT TIME.

About Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council
The Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council is comprised of the member Nations of; Loon River First Nation – #476, Lubicon Lake Band – #453, Peerless Trout First Nation – #478, Whitefish Lake First Nation – #459 and Woodland Cree First Nation – #474. It was formed in 1995 to facilitate joint action by the member Nations on matters of mutual concern.
While there are many similarities between the five KTC member Nations, each has its own unique character and features. All are surrounded by a warmth and beauty rich with the culture and traditions of the Cree people.
The primary role of the Tribal Council is to provide guidance and support to the individual member First Nations in developing and achieving success in the management and administration of their own programs with the intent of developing self-reliance.
