Director of Operations – Lubicon Lake Band #453
The Director or Operations reports directly to the Chief and Council and acts as the liaison between Chief and Council, the staff, and Lubicon Lake Band (LLB) members. This position acts in a high-level of trust and responsibility and must demonstrate integrity and professionalism. The Director or Operations makes recommendations to Chief and Council on policy and governance questions and implements decisions as directed.
Responsibilities
The Director of Operations is responsible for the successful leadership, financial integrity, and general management of the organization according to the vision, objectives and strategic direction set out by Council. This position is responsible for overseeing and ensuring that all departments and programs are successfully delivered. The Director of Operations is responsible for supervising and directing the managers of the housing, public works, social assistance, employment and training, youth and recreation, health, consultation, human resources, and finance departments. The successful candidate must be motivated and have a strong ability to mentor, coach and develop staff on administrative processes and best practices.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- Sound knowledge of financial management and reporting and auditing requirements;
- Excellent written, active listening, and oral communication skills;
- Change management skills: ability to manage change and to manage conflict;
- Effective leadership/management/human resources skills;
- Ability to assist Chief and Council in meeting governance obligations;
- Ability to read and write policies and procedures, proposals, budgets, project reports, financial statements and variance reports;

- Must demonstrate professionalism and maintain a positive demeanor which is non-threatening, calm, respectful and self-confident;
- A personal commitment to excellence including displaying dedications, honesty, integrity and a strong sense of ethics;
- Knowledge of Canada Labour Code, Provincial labour legislation, OH&S legislation, Human Rights legislation;
- Experience working within a First Nations environment, knowledge of First Nations history, challenges, culture, and family dynamics is an asset
- Clear criminal record check;
- Class 5 drivers’ license.
- Cree language fluency is an asset.
