Finance Clerk

Under the direction of the Health Director, The Finance Clerk will be responsible for accurately completing payroll with all requisite deductions and maintaining appropriate financial documentation through an organized system of filing. Other responsibilities will include submitting monthly reports to accounting, making accurate monthly remittances, recording deposits to the General Ledger as well as processing payable cheques, providing assistance with annual audit working papers, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing, updating the internal database and completing administrative duties related to the Finance Department. This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of Pre-employment/pre-access competency testing.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly submissions for accounting and monthly remittances.
• Prepare general ledger and journal entries and trial balance.
• Manage accounts receivable and payable.
• Prepare financial statements.
• Conduct banking and prepare payroll.
• Store, update, and retrieve financial data.
• Process claims and vouchers for payment, enter invoices, match invoices with purchase orders, and check all claims for accuracy.
• Verify account codes and signatures for proper assignment of budgetary expenditures.
• Function as first line contact with vendors regarding billing problems.
• Perform bi-weekly payroll processing, reporting, and quality assurance functions.
• Perform clerical duties, such as maintaining filing and record systems.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

• Familiarity with Microsoft programs.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong Interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team to provide complete services that meet unique and diverse needs.

Education and Qualifications

• Diploma in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field, will consider 3-5 years work experience.
• Experience with budget, accounting, and reporting systems.
• Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks accounting software and spreadsheet programs and applications is an asset.
• Effective diligence and a high degree of accuracy.
• High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office.
