Homemaker

The Homemaker is a part of the Health Care Team and is responsible for providing Home Support Services specific to the established Assisted Living Program. The Homemaker contributes to the team which may improve the quality of the client’s care. The Homemaker works under the direct supervision of the Health Director The homemaker will assist people with daily activities by contributing to their independence to their ability to remain in their homes.

Responsibilities

• Routine vacuuming, dusting, and tidying up.
• Clean kitchen area (dishes, clean sink, surface clean appliances such as stove, fridge etc.) a thorough cleaning of fridge, stove, defrosting refrigerator, and deep freeze be frequently cleaned than twice a year. Check for and report spoiled food in refrigerator (check with client before discarding). Wash inside of cupboards not more frequently than twice yearly.
• Make bed and or change linen.
• Wipe up floors (damp mop), wash floors.
• Clean bathrooms (counters, mirrors, sink toilet bowl and exterior bathtub, shower stall and tiles around bathtub and shower.
• Take out garbage, when necessary.
• Spot wash walls, woodwork, and ceilings.
• Meal Preparation: Prepare and store food in a safe and sanitary manner.
• Clean and tidy after food preparation
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a health care team.
• Excellent organizational skills
• Flexibility and enthusiasm
• Effective communication and people skills
• Ability to speak and understand the Cree language.

Education and Qualifications

• Minimum of grade 10
• Food Handling Certification
• A respected member of the community with demonstrated ability to work well with others.
• A demonstrated interest in care for the elderly and disabled.
• A demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information.

Additional Requirements

• Must have a valid driver’s license, class 5 minimum.
• Must have or obtain within a month of hire First Aid/ CPR certification and maintain such.
• Transportation of dangerous goods certification
